Performance

The 2018 Niro Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid models are both powered by a 1.6L inline-four engine that uses a high-efficient Atkinson Cycle to produce 104 horsepower. The Hybrid uses a 32-kilowatt motor, while the Plug-In uses a 45-kilowatt motor.

One of the most unique aspects of this vehicle's performance is that its electric motor adds more torque as needed, and uses the excess energy to charge the battery. The Plug-In model has incredible acceleration in electric mode, which is usually an issue for hybrid vehicles. Overall, these features lead to a much smoother transition through acceleration and braking. The Niro also includes several drive modes to adjust the driving experience, including Eco and Sport mode.

Comfort and Space

Though its technically a crossover, the 2018 Niro has the appeal of a wagon. It comfortably accommodates four or five people, with a whisper-quiet interior that gives a pleasant driving experience. Front seat occupants have plenty of headroom, and the back seat is spacious enough to allow taller adult passengers to stretch out.

The Niro also has an expansive cargo bay. There's 19.4 ft3 of cargo with the seat up, which expands to 54.5 ft3 of flat, unobstructed load floor. Many hybrid vehicles sacrifice cargo capacity or passenger comfort for battery storage, but the Niro managed to allocate space for both, as well as providing ample rear passenger space.

Features

The 2018 Niro Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid have slight differences between their trim levels, but both offer a wide range of well-equipped models for you to choose from.

All Niro models come with LED headlights, a rearview camera, dual-zone climate control, two SUB jacks, a 4.2-inch display screen, a 7-inch color touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ smartphone integration, a driver-only climate control feature, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. That's an impressive amount of standard equipment for a hybrid vehicle.

Optional features include blind-spot monitors, cloth and leather upholstery, heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, as well as a premium Harman Kardon® system with eight speakers, power-adjustable seating, parking sensors, and memory functions.
